In conjunction with Softwear
Join us for a workshop by Sophie Nadel – part of the public programme for Softwear, an apexart exhibition curated by Kira Wainstein.
Do you have an address that’s important to you? A password or secret phrase? Translate it into a hidden code and embroider it onto your belongings to keep it with you, but out of reach of prying eyes. In an increasingly all-encompassing technology environment, the practice of encrypting information through embroidery provides a way to store information offline while recentring a craft historically dismissed as 'women's work'.
Participants can bring something they wish to embroider onto. The workshop includes needles, scissors and crafting materials.
Please respectfully consider whether or not you will be able to attend. If you think you will not be able to attend, please cancel your order so a person on the waitlist will be able to attend.
Sophie Nadel’s practice combines creative technology, textiles and design research. Through workshops, exhibitions, publications, and art, she uses textile and digital techniques to make technology more tactile and accessible. Sophie is interested in slowing technology down, revealing its processes and encouraging audiences to engage with it through making.
