Zine Workshop and Swap

In conjunction with TRIBUTE

Before social media, Asian American artists and writers built community by hand. Zines like Slant and Bamboo Girl carved out space for Asian American voices within riot grrrl, using photocopiers, staples, and the mail to reach readers who rarely saw themselves in the movement. In conjunction with the exhibition TRIBUTE, which honors the Asian American artists who helped shape DIY, punk, and counterculture, this workshop invites participants to pick up those same tools.

Led by curator Anh Dao and Amy Yao, the workshop explores the zine as a space for personal, confessional, and unfiltered expression. Participants will make their own zines and consider how self-publishing can be a way of putting our names, stories, and histories back into circulation.
No experience is necessary. Bring zines of your own to swap, or leave with something you made that day.
