Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring Sachiko Shoji, a senior researcher and curator at the National Museum of Art, Osaka, alongside exhibiting artists and a fellow curator. Together, we will examine the future of Japanese society and art through a feminist lens.

The conversation will address pressing issues such as the uncritical embrace of emerging technologies for bodily augmentation and reproduction in the context of persistent gender inequality. Panelists will also explore how these concerns manifest in contemporary art, the role of curatorship and museums in envisioning more equitable futures, and the significance of collecting feminist art in Japan today.

「フェミニズムアートの未来を想像する」は、国立国際美術館主任研究員の正路佐知子氏をゲストに迎え、本展覧会の出展作家を交えて、未来の日本のフェミニズムとアートについて議論するトークイベントです。本イベントでは、未来の日本社会やアートについてフェミニズムの視点を通して再考します。ジェンダーの不平等が解決されないまま、新しい身体拡張技術や生殖技術が無批判に社会に浸透していくことについて、またこうした社会的テーマが反映されたアートとはどういったものなのか？未来の社会のためにキュレーションができることとは何か？美術館がフェミニズムアート作品をコレクションすることの意味とは何か？各登壇者の視点を通して議論していきます。

Curator, the National Museum of Art, Osaka (NMAO). She worked at the Fukuoka Art Museum as a curator from October 2007 to March 2023, where she organized numerous exhibitions, including In Search of Critical Imagination (2014) and Doing history! (2016), Yinka Shonibare CBE: FLOWER POWER (2019), Umeda Tetsuya: On the origin of voices (2019-20), Collection Highlights: Rethinking the Gender Balance in the Acquisitions and Presentations (2021-22), “I Can’t Give Up Hope” The Art of Tabe Mitsuko (2022), Fujino Kazutomo and Okanoue Toshiko (2022-23). At NMAO, she curated the following collection exhibitions Body–––Body (2024) and Undo, Redo (2025).

Born in Tokyo, Japan. Yamamoto explores Japan's sociopolitical landscape, reflecting feminist and postcolonial perspectives. Her works critically examine Japan's nuclear power history and systemic sexual violence in the postwar period, and offer reinterpretations of anime and manga culture through feminist and queer lenses.

東京都生まれ。日本の社会政治的状況を探求し、フェミニズムおよびポストコロニアリズムの視点を反映させた作品を制作している。彼女の作品は、日本の原子力史や戦後の制度的性暴力を批判的に考察し、またアニメやマンガ文化をフェミニズムおよびクィアの視点から再解釈する試みを行っている。


Born in Hyogo Prefecture, Myoji earned a B.F.A. in Oil Painting from Tokyo University of the Arts (2019) and has been pursuing a Master’s there since 2022. Drawing from personal experiences especially her childhood memories, Myoji creates installations exploring the female body, gender, and identity, questioning how society shapes these constructs. Her work examines how culture and community influence self-definition and the distortions caused by gender identity frameworks.

兵庫県生まれ、2019年に東京藝術大学美術学部絵画科油画専攻を卒業、2019年、東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科絵画専攻油画に入学。幼少期の記憶をはじめとする自身の経験をもとに、女性の身体、ジェンダー、アイデンティティを探求するインスタレーション作品を制作。文化やコミュニティが自己の定義に与える影響、そしてジェンダー・アイデンティティの枠組みが引き起こす歪みに着目し、社会がこれらのアイデンティティをめぐる概念をどのように形成するのかを表現を通じて問いかける。
