Picturesque streets and alleys make Tribeca one of Manhattan's most architecturally memorable neighborhoods. Join architectural historian, Matt Postal, on a tour through several of the adjoining historic districts to view handsome examples of 19th century mercantile design, including notable cast-iron warehouses and masonry loft buildings that once served the city's import/export and food processing trades. Likely highlights include Federal-style houses, the former site of St. John's Park and freight depot, the New York Mercantile Exchange, and a Renaissance Revival-style stable built for the American Express Company.
Matt Postal is an architectural historian based in Brooklyn. He teaches graduate classes on the history of New York City and its extraordinary 19th and 20th century architecture, researches and writes designation reports for the Landmarks Preservation Commission, and since 1990, leads popular and entertaining walking talks and tours throughout the five extraordinary boroughs of New York City.
