In conjunction with Obsesión! Labor as Pleasure

As part of Obsesión! Labor as Pleasure, artist Jessica Lagunas invites you to a two-hour hands-on embroidery workshop exploring how slow, decorative stitching—particularly the French knot—can become a meditative and powerful act of storytelling. Participants will learn decorative embroidery techniques, with a focus on the French knot, just as Lagunas meticulously hand-embroidered hundreds of feathers onto silk organza, honoring indigenous traditions while reclaiming colonial histories. No prior embroidery experience is required, participants may bring a piece of clothing or textile they wish to embellish—all levels are welcome.

Jessica Lagunas is a New York-based artist whose work explores themes of femininity, ritual, and identity. She has exhibited at Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín, El Museo del Barrio, and the Bronx Museum. Major collections include the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, and she’s received grants from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, NYSCA, and has completed residencies at LMCC, the Joan Mitchell Center, Wave Hill, and El Museo del Barrio.
