A screening of Aral. Fishing in an Invisible Sea, a 2004 documentary directed by Saodat Ismailova and Carlos Casas. The film explores the lives of three generations of fishermen in the Aral Sea region. Following the screening, Saodat Ismailova will join us online for a discussion about the film. This event offers an opportunity to gain insight into the human impact of environmental change and have a direct dialogue with the artist behind this documentary.
Saodat Ismailova is an internationally acclaimed filmmaker and artist whose upbringing in post-Soviet Uzbekistan and engagement with the region continue to drive her practice. Ismailova’s video works encompass themes of memory, spirituality, immortality, and extinction.
