Fellowship Program :: Frequently Asked Questions


The program is a 30-day immersive schedule focused on exploring new experiences related to culture, introspection and experimentation. apexart Fellows agree to not produce work or spend time promoting their creative practice during this month. They do not have access to a studio, visit art galleries or museums, or meet with curators and collectors. Instead, they explore life outside the confines of their comfort zone for new ideas and topics of inquiry. The Fellows are given a rigorous schedule of 2 - 4 events and activities each day that they agree to follow regardless of a predetermined reaction. Activities range from performative to workshops to lectures to volunteering. A unique aspect of the program involves weekly sessions with a psychotherapist to introduce and explore the introspective process.

It is an opportunity for artists to step away and reevaluate their work and concerns with an opportunity to explore and dive into the local culture unlike a tourist.

This program is not for promoting young artists on the upswing of their career but for people who have done substantial work and will benefit from the chance to recharge and reassess. There are no age limits, however, individuals with several years out of school tend to benefit the most from this program. Fellows have come from all socio-economic groups and all continents. We can’t introduce people to new cities/countries the same way we can people who have been to a location. We understand this limits the population, but it also means they were very involved with their work. Mates or family members are not allowed.

We provide round-trip flights to the Fellowship city location; city-center accommodation for one month; local cell phone access for one month; local transportation costs; and all entrance and program fees. We ensure that all Fellows have a reliable primary contact at the location of their Fellowship and provide all program schedules.

No. apexart determines the International Fellowship location based on the Fellow’s past travel experience, schedule availability, and the organization’s international contacts.
