For Come Together
(NYC), Portland-based artist Harrell
Fletcher invited 25 art-related
people, each to invite someone to do a ten minute lecture/presentation/demonstration
on
a topic of his or her choosing. Participants will speak on
a variety of subjects including love, growing up in Yemen,
yoga, health insurance for artists, activism, cooking, and
religion, among others. The all day event will result in a
lively, diverse line-up of interesting participants and topics
of discussion. The public is encouraged to come and stay for
the whole experience, but may come and go as they wish during
the eight-hour event.
Harrell Fletcher has worked collaboratively
and individually on a variety of socially engaged interdisciplinary
projects
for over a decade. He has exhibited at SF MoMA, The Berkeley
Art Museum, and Yerba Buena Center For The Arts in SF, The
Drawing Center, Socrates Sculpture Park, DiverseWorks, PICA,
Whitney Museum, and Signal (Malmo, Sweden).
"Ultimately, I'd like... to think of art not as discreet
objects or images, but instead as a
sensibility that people can bring to all aspects of their
lives." – Harrell
