| Edible Paper Experiments Tuesday, January 15-Thursday, January 17, 1:00-6:00pm daily 291 Church Street, NYC Come to the gallery and join artist, Andrew Gryf Paterson, in creating new forms from discarded scraps. This three-day workshop explores collaborative, do-it-with-others styles of making to create edible paper using food waste. Starchy foods, fibrous vegetables or plants are ideal materials and, when blended or boiled, can provide the base pulp for making paper. The strength, texture and translucency will depend on what materials we start with. Each day will be an evolving experimental process generated by participants and daily food waste. Andrew Gryf Paterson (SCO/FI) is an artist-organizer, cultural producer, educator and independent researcher. He specializes in developing and leading inter/trans-disciplinary projects exploring connections between art, digital culture and science, cultural activism, ecological and sustainability movements, cultural heritage and collaborative networks. Originally from Scotland, Paterson has been most active in the past 14 years in the Baltic Sea region, based for most of the time in Helsinki, Finland. In recent years, he has been collaborating with Agnieszka Pokrywka, in Pixelache project 'Ferment Lab' activities. The overlap into food-hacking and paper-making emerged from this activity, and is an ongoing, curious experiment. |
