Baris Gokturk is a Turkish artist living in New York. He holds a BFA in Fine Arts and Animation from the New School Parsons School of Design and received his MFA from Hunter College. He was the recipient of the Graf Travel Grant and the Tony Smith Award. He currently teaches at Hunter as well as John Hopkins University New York Education Program and One River Art and Design School. Baris has exhibited his work internationally in the US, Spain, France, Korea, Turkey, and Puerto Rico. He operates Heliopolis, a small artist-run gallery and project space in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. His relief-based work revolves around translating the intangibility of ready-made knowledge, provided by contemporary information technologies, into the materially tangible surface of painting.
