October 5: 1:30 pm
Artist Justin Hoover will kick off the reception with 1 Poem | 2 Columns, a calligraphic performance that pays homage to the pioneering legacy of the oft-forgotten Chinese railroad workers. Using found organic material near the train tracks that run through the center of Marfa, Hoover will create an ephemeral "Duai Lien," a traditional poetic style in which fourteen characters, seven in each column, are used to create a short poem. He will create one column along the train tracks between N. Highland Street and Russell Street, near the shade structure, and the second column in The Lumberyard gallery. |
