Damian Jöel, otherwise called D.J. is a queer Multidisciplinary Artist and Fashion Griot, who inhabits the Munsee Lenape land, known as Brooklyn, NYC as a refugee from Kingston, Jamaica since 2014. His artistic (fashion-centric) practice sits at the intersection of the creative arts, sustainable fashion, and community engagement with the intention to advance humanity—particularly focussed on queer equity, and African-diasporan histories, experiences, and collective healing and radical imagining. While Damian is a cisgendered man who uses he/him/his pronouns personally, the artist employs gender expansive pronouns when referencing the works created, to honour the collective ingenuity, trauma, joy, and love of his ancestors embodied through the work. He cites, "I am them; they are me."
