Current apexart resident Maria Riskova in dialogue with artist Monika Weiss.

Maria Riskova (born 1974) is a curator and educator based in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. She holds a Master's Degree in History of Art and Culture from Trnava University and was on the Faculty of Humanities in the Department of History of Art and Culture. Ms. Riskova has coordinated and participated in a number of contemporary art programs, independent spaces and experimental projects across Slovakia and Central Europe (BURYZONE, BURUNDI). Her current project is 13 m3, an organization she co-founded in 2005 devoted to exploring new modes of cultural presentation; she also coordinates MULTIPLACE festival for new media culture, and curated for the XYZ group (2001, 2002). She has co-edited publications for a number of projects; most recently, she was included in Check Slovakia! Young Art from Slovakia (2004). Maria Riskova was recommended by Viera Jancekova, curator, Trnava, Slovak Republic.

Monika Weiss is a Polish-born artist based in New York City. Her performances, videos, and sculptures explore physical properties of the act of drawing, which she combines with references to the ancient and medieval symbols and concepts of the world and the human being. Weiss obtained Master’s degree from Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1990 and has taught at the MFA in Visual Art, Vermont College; School of the Art Institute of Chicago; University of Maryland; Georgia State University; and Spelman College, among others. Her work is represented by Remy Toledo Gallery in Chelsea, and Galerie Samuel Lalouz in Montreal, and is featured in multiple public collections including Albertina Museum in Vienna and Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art in Peekskill, New York. Weiss is on the board of Nomads+Residents, international curators and artists organization based in New York City.
