apexart :: MakerBot Tutorial

As Real As It Gets Presents:
Imaginary Brands with MakerBot

Saturday, December 8

Create your own brand, design your own product,
and watch it come to life!

11 am - 1:30 pm: session exclusively for kids ages 7-12

2:30 - 5:30 pm: session open to participants of all ages

Liz Arum, head of Education Outreach and Curriculum Development at MakerBot, will guide participants through the process of designing and printing models of their own products, just like the artists and designers in As Real As It Gets, organized by Rob Walker, which examines fictional products that artists and designers have made real.

Arum will lead two sessions on 3D design and printing using the MakerBot Replicator. In each session she will demonstrate how to use Tinkercad, an easy-to-use 3D design program online, to model, design, and print products from their own imagination.

In order to work with the Tinkercad software, participants are required to bring their own laptop on which to work. For demonstration purposes, several example designs will be printed during the session. Each registrant can submit one design at the end of the class that will be printed out over the course of the exhibition and mailed to the participant before December 22, 2012. Each session is limited to 15 people; RSVP strongly advised.

$7 donation in advance; $10 at the door. Parents free: RSVPs only necessary for children who participate in the morning session and all participants in the afternoon session.
